The Helpful Hoodlums is a local charity effort formed on the night of October 1st, 2017, by a group of friends who witnessed the chaos during the Route 91 Shooting. They chose to spend the night driving victims to the hospital, transporting stranded concert guests to safety, and helping those without any means of returning home. Once the victim sites were empty, Dustin Hoots met with local business owner Branden Powers of Evel Pie. Branden was trying to donate food to first responders and victims but lacked delivery drivers. Dustin and his friends spent the next 20 hours straight delivering over 300 pizzas, as well as other food, drinks, and supplies to first responders and those in need. In the following weeks, supplies were collected for victims and the families of victims who were unexpectedly stranded in Las Vegas, unable to leave. Those collected supplies turned into a local pantry, and for the following three months, Evel Pie and the Hoodlums ran a community goods donation area where the valley's homeless population could stop by and grab needed hygienic supplies, food, clothing, and gift cards for other local businesses to help them get on their feet. The Hoodlums have evolved into a community-driven organization that strives to help anyone who reaches out. We have helped people out of financial binds, found vehicles for those in need, assisted lower-income families dealing with the deaths of a loved one and breadwinner, and routinely maintained positive relationships with the unhoused population of Las Vegas and other charity organizations. Now, the Hoodlums have partnered with Mad Monk Tattoo to provide an outpost for community assistance in a readily available brick-and-mortar location. We also hope to continue expanding our abilities to help the city of Las Vegas in the tattoo, art, and local music communities.
